The Kano State Government has officially opened applications for the Abba Kabir Yusuf Youth Empowerment Programme in Entrepreneurship (AKY YEPE), a major skills acquisition and empowerment initiative aimed at equipping young people with practical vocational skills and supporting them to become self-reliant.
According to information obtained by Nworisa Michael's Blog, the programme is being implemented under the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf as part of the state's "Kano First" agenda to reduce unemployment, encourage entrepreneurship and stimulate grassroots economic development.
The initiative will provide fully funded professional training for successful applicants at accredited entrepreneurship institutes across Kano State. Upon completion of the programme, beneficiaries will also receive empowerment support to enable them establish their own businesses and become economically independent.
The training will be conducted through the state's 26 revitalised Entrepreneurship Institutes, which have been equipped to offer specialized training in high-demand sectors, including technical trades, agriculture, digital technology, creative industries and other vocational fields.
The programme is targeted at Kano State residents between the ages of 18 and 35 years, adding that the application process is completely free of charge.
The notice noted that Youth Empowerment Programme in Entrepreneurship (YEPE) covers the full cost of participants' training at accredited institutes and provides post-training empowerment packages to help graduates stand on their own after completing the programme.
The government described the initiative as part of its broader commitment to empowering youths and women with marketable skills capable of creating sustainable livelihoods and boosting economic productivity across the state.
