Sultan Declares Monday As First Day Of Dhul Hijjah, Eid-El-Kabir Set For May 27
The declaration was made in a statement issued by the Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs of the Sultanate Council, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu.
According to the statement, the successful sighting of the moon marks the commencement of Dhul Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic calendar and one of the most spiritually significant periods for Muslims worldwide.
The Sultanate Council stated that the period coincides with the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia and the celebration of Eid-el-Adha, popularly known as Eid-el-Kabir.
The statement added that Eid-el-Kabir is expected to be observed on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, corresponding with the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah, subject to further confirmation.
The Council urged Muslims across Nigeria to dedicate the sacred season to prayers, spiritual reflection, acts of devotion and supplications for peace, unity and progress in the country.
It also advised members of the public to rely only on official communications from the Sultanate Council and recognised Islamic authorities regarding announcements related to the Islamic calendar and Eid celebrations.
