The Institute of Continuing Education (ICE), Northwest University Kano, has commenced the online sale of application forms for admission into its part-time degree programmes for the 2026/2027 academic session.

According to an admission notice released by the institution, the application process began on Monday, July 6, 2026, and will run until August 30, 2026. The exercise covers admission into 100 Level and 200 Level (Direct Entry) programmes.

Prospective applicants are expected to complete their applications online through the university's official website.

The university listed the available programmes to include B.A. International Studies, B.A. Islamic Studies, B.Sc. Economics, B.Sc. Accounting, B.Sc. (Ed) Biology, B.Sc. (Ed) Chemistry, B.Sc. Computer Science, and B.Sc. Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

Northwest University stated that all courses will be offered on a part-time basis. It advised candidates to ensure they meet the admission requirements for their chosen programmes before applying.

The institution also noted that applicants must possess at least five O'Level credit passes, including English Language and Mathematics, while Direct Entry candidates are required to have NCE, IJMB (minimum of nine points), or a National Diploma (Lower Credit) in addition to the O'Level requirements.

The application form costs ₦15,000 and is non-refundable.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has warned that it will sanction individuals, businesses and financial institutions that refuse to accept the standard ₦100 banknote, reaffirming that both the regular and commemorative versions of the note remain legal tender across the country.

The apex bank issued the warning on Wednesday following reports that some traders and business operators had rejected the standard ₦100 note, claiming it was no longer valid for transactions.

In a statement signed by its Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Hakama Sidi Ali, the CBN described the practice as unlawful, stressing that rejecting any duly issued banknote undermines public confidence in the nation's currency and violates the provisions of the CBN Act.

According to the bank, the commemorative ₦100 note introduced to mark Nigeria's centenary was designed to circulate alongside the existing standard ₦100 note and was never intended to replace it.

The CBN therefore urged Nigerians to continue accepting both versions of the ₦100 note for all transactions nationwide.

The apex bank warned that anyone found rejecting the standard ₦100 banknote would face appropriate enforcement measures in line with the law.

It reiterated its commitment to protecting the integrity of the naira, maintaining public confidence in all officially issued banknotes and ensuring the smooth circulation of currency across the country.

The CBN also advised members of the public seeking further clarification on the status of any banknote to contact the bank through its official communication channels.

Months after her widely celebrated Street Food Outreach captured the attention of food lovers across Kano, Chef Imoni has revealed that she has been quietly laying the foundation for the next phase of her culinary journey.

In an exclusive interaction with Nworisa Michael's Blog, the fast-rising chef disclosed that while public activities may have slowed, significant work has been taking place behind the scenes, including plans to establish a permanent walk-in and sit-out restaurant.

According to her, the proposed space will allow her to properly serve customers while bringing her long-held vision to life. Until then, she said she remains committed to taking and delivering food orders online.

Reflecting on the impact of the Street Food Outreach, Chef Imoni described the event as a turning point for her brand, noting that it significantly increased public awareness of her work and introduced her to a wider audience.

"The impact was huge," she said. "A lot of people now know my brand and know me as a chef."

She also revealed that the event opened new doors for collaborations and business opportunities, including partnerships with professionals she had previously worked with, while expressing optimism that even greater opportunities lie ahead.

Although she declined to reveal details of upcoming projects, she hinted that supporters should expect exciting surprises in the months ahead.

"People think I have money," she joked. "I don't have money. The biggest challenge is funding because I need resources to build the brand the way I've always envisioned it."

Speaking to young people hoping to build careers in the culinary industry, Chef Imoni stressed that passion is the most important ingredient for success.

According to her, those who venture into business solely for financial gain often lose motivation when challenges arise, whereas genuine passion provides the resilience needed to keep going despite obstacles.

The chef also confirmed that she is developing several new food concepts and customer experiences but chose to keep the details under wraps for now, promising that they would be unveiled at the appropriate time.

Beyond serving meals, Chef Imoni said her greatest aspiration is to create opportunities for others by mentoring, equipping and empowering young people with practical culinary skills that can become sustainable sources of income.

The Kano State House of Assembly Committee on Higher Education has commended the rapid progress and infrastructural development taking place at Northwest University Kano (NWUK) following an oversight and familiarization visit to the institution.

The committee, led by its Chairman, Ali Lawan Alhassan, visited the university on Thursday as part of efforts to strengthen higher education in the state and assess the institution's activities, achievements and challenges.

Speaking during the visit, Hon. Alhassan said the committee deemed it necessary to familiarize itself with the university's leadership while gaining first-hand knowledge of its operations and developmental needs.

According to him, the visit was aimed at evaluating the university's progress, identifying its challenges and exploring possible legislative interventions that would enable the institution to effectively deliver on its mandate.

Welcoming the lawmakers, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero, presented an overview of the university, including its staff strength, admission statistics and current student population.

She highlighted the infrastructural developments recorded by the institution under the administration of Abba Kabir Yusuf, noting that several strategic projects had transformed the university's physical landscape.

The Vice-Chancellor also outlined challenges facing the institution and appealed to the Kano State House of Assembly for continued support through legislative interventions.

Professor Bayero further highlighted achievements recorded by her administration within a few months in office, emphasizing improvements in academic excellence, infrastructure, staff welfare, institutional partnerships and service delivery.

Expressing satisfaction with the university's progress, Hon. Alhassan praised the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, stating that the committee was impressed by the achievements recorded within such a short period.

"We are highly impressed by the achievements you have recorded within such a short period. We are overwhelmed by the progress and we are proud of your leadership," he said.

The interactive session was chaired by the Majority Leader of the Kano State House of Assembly, Lawan Hussaini C. Yangurasa, in line with the Assembly's protocol.

Responding to issues raised by the university management, Hon. Yangurasa assured the institution that the House would give serious consideration to the identified challenges and facilitate the necessary legislative support required for its continued growth and development.

Members of the delegation included Ahmed Ibrahim and Sa'ad Aminu Sa'ad, alongside the committee clerk.

The lawmakers were later taken on an inspection tour of major facilities on the university's main campus, including the ongoing construction of the Faculty of Humanities complex, where they witnessed the scale of infrastructural development underway at the institution.

Fresh allegations have emerged against former Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, following claims that ₦308 million earmarked for special prayer sessions across the state's 44 local government areas was diverted.

The allegations were made by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Tsangaya Education, Sheikh Musa Falaki, during a video interview circulated by .

According to Falaki, the former leadership of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria allegedly informed investigators that each of Kano State's 44 local government councils contributed ₦44 million monthly over a seven-month period to fund special prayers intended to be held across the state.

Falaki stated that he and Islamic scholar Sheikh Ibrahim Sheshi Maihula were reportedly designated to coordinate the prayer programme. However, he alleged that neither of them was aware that funds were allegedly being collected and disbursed in their names.

He further claimed that neither he nor Sheikh Maihula received any payment connected to the exercise or conducted the prayers for which the funds were purportedly approved.

According to Falaki, the matter only came to light after both clerics were invited by the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission to provide clarification during an ongoing investigation.

He alleged that it was during the anti-corruption commission's inquiry that they discovered that ₦44 million had allegedly been released every month for seven consecutive months, bringing the total amount involved to ₦308 million.

Falaki subsequently accused Gwarzo of allegedly diverting the funds intended for the prayer initiative, maintaining that the clerics in whose names the programme was purportedly organised neither received the money nor carried out the exercise.

The governor's aide also alleged that the issue forms part of a broader investigation by the anti-corruption commission into the management of local government funds in Kano State. According to him, investigators had reportedly asked the former deputy governor to refund more than ₦700 million allegedly diverted from the treasuries of the state's 44 local government councils.

As of the time of filing this report, Gwarzo had not publicly responded to the allegations contained in the video interview.

Nigeria has reiterated its commitment to expanding its gas sector and attracting foreign investment, with the Federal Government highlighting the country's vast gas reserves, strategic infrastructure projects, and investor-friendly policies at the 2026 Global Energy Show in Calgary, Canada.

Ekperikpe Ekpo, said Nigeria remains well-positioned to play a leading role in the global energy market through its abundant natural gas resources and ongoing reforms aimed at boosting investor confidence.

According to the minister, the government is creating a stable regulatory environment designed to unlock investment opportunities, accelerate growth in the gas industry, and strengthen Nigeria's position as a major energy destination.

Ekpo emphasized that the country's gas development agenda is being supported by key infrastructure projects, including the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline and the Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben (OB3) Pipeline. He described the projects as critical to expanding domestic gas distribution, enhancing energy access, and supporting industrial development across Nigeria.

The minister further noted that the infrastructure initiatives would strengthen regional gas supply across West and North Africa while positioning Nigeria as a long-term supplier to European energy markets.

He reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to deepening international energy partnerships and contributing to global energy security, stressing that collaboration with foreign investors remains essential to achieving the country's energy transition and economic development objectives.

The presentation formed part of Nigeria's participation at the Global Energy Show Canada 2026, where industry leaders, policymakers, and investors from across the world gathered to discuss the future of energy, investment opportunities, and sustainable energy development.
