KPCF Commends Women Inclusion In Kano Politics, Calls For Greater Opportunities For PWDs
In a statement issued on May 18, 2026, the coalition praised the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for promoting inclusive governance and encouraging women’s participation in politics and leadership.
According to the Forum, the governor’s approach to governance has continued to inspire confidence among women, youths and other vulnerable groups across the state.
KPCF described the nomination of a female candidate for the Kano State House of Assembly from the Ghari/Tsanyawa constituency by a major political party as a landmark development in the state’s political history.
The coalition noted that the move reflects progress toward strengthening gender inclusion, democratic participation and equal representation in Kano politics.
The Forum stressed that increasing women’s involvement in governance would further promote democracy, equity and social justice, adding that women remain critical contributors to national development and public leadership.
While applauding the development, KPCF also called on political parties in Kano State and across the country to create similar opportunities for Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) during party primaries and candidate selection processes.
The coalition expressed concern over what it described as the persistent underrepresentation of persons living with disabilities in political leadership despite their constitutional rights and contributions to society.
It urged political parties to adopt affirmative policies capable of guaranteeing fair participation and representation of PWDs at all levels of the political process.
According to the Forum, broader inclusion of marginalised groups in governance would strengthen democratic accountability and provide more citizens with opportunities to contribute meaningfully to national growth.
KPCF further called on political parties to institutionalise inclusive policies, ensure transparent and non-discriminatory nomination processes and intensify advocacy for inclusive governance.
The coalition also encouraged citizens to support qualified and credible candidates regardless of gender or physical condition.
The statement was jointly signed by the Forum’s conveners, Hassan Ibrahim Gama, Mustapha Muhammed Chiroma and Peter Hassan Tijjani.
