The Kano State Urban Planning and Development Authority has called on ward heads and residents across the state to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious or unauthorized building projects within their communities.
The Acting Managing Director of KNUPDA, Tpl. Nura Ma'ude, made the appeal following the discovery of an unauthorized underground structure during the Authority's routine monitoring and inspection of building development approvals in Mariri, located in Kumbotso Local Government Area.
According to him, the structure involved an underground excavation estimated to be between 20 and 40 feet deep and was being carried out without obtaining the necessary approval from the Authority.
Following the discovery, KNUPDA immediately sealed the property and directed the owner to report to the Authority for further investigation and appropriate regulatory action.
Ma'ude reaffirmed the Authority's commitment to enforcing building regulations across the state, warning that KNUPDA would not hesitate to initiate legal action against individuals or developers who undertake construction projects without securing the required approvals.
He further urged ward heads and members of the public to support the Authority's efforts by remaining alert and reporting any new construction activities suspected to be unauthorized in their neighbourhoods, stressing that community cooperation is vital to ensuring public safety, orderly urban development and the prevention of avoidable disasters.
The Acting Managing Director noted that the administration of Abba Kabir Yusuf places the safety and security of lives and property among its top priorities and remains committed to strict compliance with urban planning regulations across the state.
He also commended the dedication, professionalism and commitment of KNUPDA staff in carrying out their responsibilities towards safeguarding the physical development of Kano State.
