Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed November 19, 2026, for judgment in a suit challenging the emergence of former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello as the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Kogi Central.
The judge fixed the date on Monday after lawyers representing the parties adopted their final written addresses and concluded their arguments before the court.
The suit was filed by Momoh Yusuf Obaro, an aspirant in the APC primary election for the Kogi Central Senatorial District. Obaro sued the APC, Bello and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), claiming that he won the primary election conducted by the party on May 18.
The plaintiff is asking the court to declare him the authentic winner of the primary and order the APC to forward his name to INEC as its candidate for the senatorial election.
Obaro is also seeking an order directing INEC to recognise and register him as the APC candidate and publish his candidacy in accordance with the law.
Bello, however, rejected the claims and maintained that he won the primary with 72,399 votes.
According to the former governor, Ibrahim Yakubu Adoke came second with 319 votes, while Obaro polled 188 votes.
Bello urged the court to dismiss the suit, describing the case as lacking merit.
Following the adoption of final arguments by counsel to the parties, Justice Ekwo adjourned the matter until November 19 for judgment.
