The Presidency has called for legal action against social media influencer, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VDM, over the circulation of an alleged fake audio recording linked to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, made the call in a post shared on X on Wednesday, accusing the influencer of spreading false and misleading content on social media.

According to Onanuga, VDM should be made to face legal consequences for allegedly distributing manipulated audio purportedly involving President Tinubu.

The presidential aide described the development as a dangerous misuse of social media and warned against the spread of misinformation capable of misleading members of the public.

Onanuga’s reaction followed comments by an X user identified as Aneex, who questioned why some Nigerians believed the controversial audio recording actually featured the President’s voice.

The user reportedly described the recording as propaganda and accused VDM of exploiting public emotions to circulate false narratives online.

The alleged audio has continued to generate mixed reactions across social media platforms, with supporters and critics debating its authenticity and the broader implications of spreading unverified digital materials.

The Presidency, however, insisted that the audio was fabricated and maintained that those responsible for circulating it should be held accountable in accordance with the law.
