EXPLOSION: Kano Police Commissioner Visits Scene of Yongxing Steel Explosion, Orders Full Investigation

The Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has visited the site of a tragic explosion at Yongxing Steel Company located along Ring Road in Mariri Quarters, Kano. The Commissioner led early responders to the scene, including the Command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit and specialists from the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Response Team.
Upon arrival, the area was immediately secured and cordoned off to prevent further harm. EOD operatives professionally recovered seven suspected explosive devices from the scene thankfully, without any further casualties.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Hussaini Abdullahi, the police were alerted via a distress call from Mr. Ibrahim Udazu, the Marketing Manager of Yongxing Steel Company. He reported an explosion within the factory premises that had caused serious injuries to some workers.
Preliminary investigations suggest the blast originated from a truck loaded with scrap materials brought in from Damaturu, Yobe State. The explosion occurred during offloading operations inside the factory compound.
Sadly, fifteen individuals sustained varying degrees of injuries. They were rushed to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for urgent medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, five of the victims lost their lives while receiving treatment. The remaining injured individuals are currently responding to care.
In response, CP Bakori has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the cause of the explosion. He also appealed to the public to stay calm and remain vigilant. Residents are encouraged to cooperate with law enforcement and provide any useful information that could aid the ongoing investigation.
