OPEN LETTER TO ALH. BAFFA BICHI SECRETARY TO THE STATE GOVERNMENT (SSG) KANO BY AMB. NWORISA MICHAEL
It's been three days after the demolition of the Beautiful gigantic structure at the roundabout just in front of the Kano State government house, an action which has been trailed with a lot of reaction with many against it even among known loyalists of His Excellency Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf such as Barr. Abba Hikima whom I admire so much for his outspokenness on government laxity and the likes of several others too.
However, a larger number of concerned Kano residents especially the Christian community became worried at your comments made on Freedom Radio Kano cited a Christian Cross to be amongst the reason, at which you were quoted to have said; “The roundabout is obstructing the view of motorists, and secondly, if you use a drone camera, you will see that the roundabout has a large design of a cross on top of it. “And over 9.99 or 100 percent of Kano indigenes are Muslims. So you can’t have a structure with a large inscription of the cross on it. It’s against Islamic values.
Sir. In Nigeria, we cannot undermine the role and significance religion contributes to our personal, state, and national life, considering its sensitivity it is therefore expedient that it be handled with great caution.
I strongly condemn your statement that an image of a "Christian Cross" was part of the reasons for the structure's demolition and it also contradicts the official statement made by His Excellency Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf on this incident through his Chief Press Secretary Sunusi Bature; "Kano State government has demolished the government house roundabout last night in the best interest of public good." "Prior to the exercise, government had consulted professional Engineers in the relevant fields who ascertained to the fact that the roundabout construction was substandard and has the tendency to collapse between 2023 and 2024." "This is because it is done with used foam work and too much sandy materials instead of normal cement concrete." "Also, the structure is too tall to be placed in front of the government house as it defaces its main gate which blocks the view for security safety." "Additionally, it poses traffic challenges around the area because of its size, blocking the view of drivers accessing all routes linked through the roundabout." Personally, I believe that the demolition of the structure owing by the justifications His Excellency Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf stated is a welcome development as the security of lives and properties are the responsibilities of every responsible government. If there is anyone who should stand in objection to this? that can only be the contractor whose service His Excellency Dr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje's lead administration engaged to erect the structure, and this they can only do haven substantial facts to justify their work. But until then. Finally sir. I would wish to urge you that it be fitting to always take into cognizance the possible effects of our utterances and actions as they could either heal or cause even deeper wounds to those it will fall on, as on this cause the latter is the case. As such incidents tends to sabotage efforts of divers people committed to national cohesion.
